Buying Advice from Massachusetts

It won't be doctors quitting initially that will be a problem. It will be the new crop of top medical students who will head toward plastic surgery instead of brain/heart/other specialist surgery that will cause the problems. The "brain drain" will be a HUGE issue moving forward.

Doctors who are currently practicing will limit who they see to only the most profitable individuals (those who are "self insured") or executives of companies with top-tiered plans. It will be specialization of doctors, but not in the sense of practice specialization, but rather patient qualification specialization.

Are you going to go from $300,000 down to $180,000 or leave the profession to try to find a Monster.com job for $45,000?

Even at 45,000, that would still be quite a bit more than they were making in Pakistan last year before they came here as part of the Obama cost control plan. That is where most of them came from to work for the NHS in Britain. That practice has come to a screeching halt not just because some of them are terrorists but because there are just too many of them now and they are just hanging around collecting welfare.

Also the Brits/NHS get most of their drugs from India. Big pharmaceutical companies like Reddy and Cipla. Sign of things to come.

Most new docs will not have the option of leaving this or that type of practice unless their uncle dies and leaves them a few hundred thousand. The governemt will give them loans with the condition that they either pay them back or work in government for X number of years. Thus they will essentially be indentured serfs for the government. You will be forty years old and want to start your own practice. Not only can you not get a line of credit to start up but you owe another 300,000 if you leave. Guess I will just keep on working down at the King County Multi-Cultural Clinic instead. They have free gym membership for docs too.

Change you can believe in.

I disagree. I think doctors are full of a lot of talk - which is all it it; talk. You think any doctor is going to "quit" medicine? And become what? A waiter?

My guess is medical school enrollments will drop a bunch. I applaud most doctors for wanting to go into the medical field. But let's be honest, they all enjoy the living it creates. Why would you go to medical school if you salary is artificially capped at a much lower figure?

Also, I do not believe any controls will be in place to control the costs of malpractice insurance. If your annual premiums are $200,000 or more a year for your specialty, and now you can only bring in $180,000 in fees how long would you continue practising?

What's the old story about the guy buying watermelons for a dollar. He sells them $10.00 for a dozen thinking he'll make up the difference in volume?

Is it better than the "Silver Sneakers" program?

Au contraire, mon ami

Please try and keep up?
Under the new world order of healthcare all this will be regulated by our lord and masters ... I mean ... elected officials. They will make sure that medical students are "assigned" to the appropriate areas of medical expertise as determined by the supreme soviet ... I mean needs of the people. Fear not, their salaries will also be determined. And best of all, no more pesky ins. forms to fill out.
