Buying FSC Rater

I was curious if I was to buy an FSC rater to start my own business would it be free for me to start placing business with different insurance carriers? And how would I go about adding different carriers to the list of companies I could quote clients with?

I currently work at an insurance brokerage that writes strictly auto policies and we currently use FSC rater to place business. I want to transition to my own business and build my own book.

Thanks for your responses

Nope, sorry to burst your idea, but you can't place business with different carriers for free... Unless you mean free as in you won't be expecting any commissions.

You need your proper licensing, E&O insurance and surety bond to cover a few of the basics. Then there's the carriers... Chances are as you start new, there won't be too many carriers that will appoint you to directly write for them. So you'll need to sign up with a group like Superior Access or Insurance Noodle.

Everything costs when you're starting a new agency. Hopefully once you get everything setup and after a couple months of writing business you'll then see your first commissions check.

Best of luck to you.
