Buying my Fathers Agency - New to Insurance - Looking for General Advice

Here is some good advice.......

Don't read xxx.com

Don't go captive.

Trust a great father if you were lucky enough to get one.

Work 45 hours a week as hard as you can. 9-6 (Not a fluffy 45)

Work that book and get some new lead providers (Mortgage brokers)

And Get dad out of the day to day fast.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I was able to talk the old man into sticking around for a few months. I moved into the apartment attached to the office and moved my car payment to the agency. I am only taking a small salary right now. Dad is still working 4 days a week, and he is showing me as much of the ropes as possible. I am trying to learn all the companies he has and how to write with each of them. I've met with our preferred carriers and we are getting started on the appointment process.

for now I am just learning the business, but I want to start doing heavy networking soon. There are no business networking groups in my immediate area, but I might join one about an hour away. I will also start attending chamber of commerce events in surrounding areas. I will try to meet as many realtors and mortgage brokers as possible.

That's about all the ideas I have at the moment. I am always open to suggestions.
