California PCIP will be lowering the enrollment cap from the originally-estimated 24,000 subscribers down to 6,800. Once 6,800 are enrolled, the CA PCIP will close and likely use a waiting list similar to MRMIP. Interestingly, MRMIP caps higher at 7,000.

Almost 1/5 of the $5B national allotment for PCIP went to California ($791M).

If CA MRMIB can scare up another $500M from uncle Obama, they can up the cap to 11,247--still over 50% below the original projection of enrollees.

Now how much do you think ObamaCare is really going to cost us if this is just a microcosm of the larger plan? If this utilization is indicative, it's going to be about 4.62 TRILLION in costs to ensure the 37M.

I'm going to guess that utilization of sick people on GI plans is probably going to trend higher than average.

If you view the document I linked to, you will see that the CA PCIP Average Claim per Member per Month was estimated both in Aug 2010 and Feb 2011 between 1,000 and 1,100 but the first "actual" is 3X higher than the estimates. I assume that nationally we can anticipate similar variations between the administrations "estimates" and the final, actual utilization.

Are some of these "exchanges" going to make it to 2014 before they go belly up?

Lets see, a waiting list to get on the program because they couldn't get insurance. Explain that to me again......

Of course utilization is high. Nobody would pay the premium for PCIP if it wasn't cheaper than paying the medical bills directly. Doh!!!! I'm guessing there is only 1 healthy person in the plan right now and they signed up thinking it was something else (i.e., they didn't know better).

On the other hand, what do people with some resources do for medical care if they are sick? Spend everything they have in a few months then get on medicaid/medical, if they can? It really is a catch 22. Could hold a job if you can get treatment, can't afford treatment because it costs more than you make on the job kind of problem.

You sir are correct! That's why I spend time at the gym working on my strength and cardio 3-4 times per week. I also don't eat anything I would like to (practice of self control). If people would accept that 85% of your health results from what you put into your body, the US would be much healthier.

Two years ago I quit eating like I was still 20. I went from 185 to 165 in 1 year with little to no exercise during that year. I have since added the exercise routines.
My guidelines:
1- If your great grandmother would not recognize it as food, don't eat it - (so long Oreos and honeybuns)
2 - If you left the food outside and it looks the same after 2 weeks (won't breakdown) - imagine what it's doing in your body.
3 - We greatly overestimate the calories we burn when we exercise and we greatly underestimate the calories we consume each day. - Example - look at the calories in a bowl of cereal, now pour a bowl of the recommended amount (usually 3/4 cup). I would bet your bowl of cereal is 3 to 4 bowls of cereal.

Getting healthy is simply a choice, no one is forcing you to eat 10 double stuffed oreos at 70 calories a piece. Stepping of soap box now.

Soap box is okay! Now just convince the zillions and zillions of overweight/obese people in this nation and we will be good to go!

California burned through $791 million in the first year. Now the government gives them a "paultry" $118 million more? This will cover the existing insureds for 2 whole months. Add some new enrollees and the money will vanish in no time.

It's amazing how expensive medical care is becoming. One client was billed $79,000 last month for 24 hours of tests and a wire implant. This didn't include the surgeon charge. Contrary to what the Obama people believe, it's NOT the insurance companies that's the problem...that 4 sure.
