California Mudslides

Last time the DOI tried to force insurers to cover something, it resulted in all of the home carriers packing up and leaving the state, then the state finally relented and created the CEA (California Earthquake Authority). Basically, the DOI insisted home policies cover earthquakes and the insurers said no, not only no, but no.

I think saying the rain, which caused the floods, was caused by the fire is going to be a HUGE stretch.

NFIP (National Flood Insurance Program) does not cover earthmovement, which a mudslide is considered. It does cover mudflow, which is easier thought of as a river coming through your house, but not your house moving to the river (that is caused by a mudslide). Bottom line is if the house moves and its not an earthquake, its either a landslide or a mudslide. If the house stays and gets mud, its a mudflow.

I know nothing about DIC (difference in conditions) policies, but they are the only way that you can get coverage for mudslides.
