"Beginning with September 1, 2010 effective dates, we are no longer issuing new business in the state of Maryland. Beginning with September 23, 2010 effective dates, we are no longer issuing business for the states of Nevada and Virginia."

Got this from a Celtic rep.

Those states have always been ones we have been slow to bring new products
out in. For instance, VA we haven't had a new plan since 2002 because their
DOI and laws for the state made it unprofitable to (or unable to). MD and
NV have never been good states because they have specific state mandates
that made it difficult to compete in.

Things can always change, but those states are certainly NOT a precursor to
us pulling out or doing things in other states.

They have the cheapest rates in TX.............on the outside.

Once you start to look at their plans in any sort of detail, they are full of additional deductibles/copays.

They are our last resort if someone wants "cheap" insurance.

They never had anything to offer in MD. They couldn't compete with copay or HSA plans from other carriers and if someone wanted "cheap" health insurance it was off to Carefirst.

When I got appointed with them in '04, comp was 10% and everything including prescreens had to run through their DM.

Its pretty much the same way now.

Most things have to go through the DM (which can be a pain)

Commish is 20% on their "Basic" plans.

We don't tend to do anything other than "Here's the link to apply"

We don't waste too much time on it. Although having said that, those as earned commissions to do add up quite nicely.
