Chrome Overtakes Explorer

Chrome is a super browser but is a memory and hard drive hog. If you don't scrub your HD on a regular basis your computer will continue to run slower and slower.

It is one of the most secure browsers with mostly "silent" updates.

If you have a Google account, including mail, it does not matter which browser you use. Google will track you every where, across other Google products (including Google).

The only way to escape is to log out of any and every Google account you have and then use Bing with FF or IE.

Does Google track you through he use of Chrome? I have quit using any Google service which requires a sign in as a matter of principal.

Yes. They use it to view user behavior, there is an opt out when you install, I don't trust them to honor it.

Actually, if Chrome was safer and worked better, I would change.

And not changing the subject but you mentioned Ahrefs last week. I see where it is now part of the SEOBook Toolbar. Or maybe it's another toolbar.

Technically it's not part of the toolbar, you have to manually add the api instruction code to the seobook toolbar, but they have integration instructions on the ahrefs site under tools. Been using that for a while. You can disable the other sources, such as alexa and semrush which are much less accurate, then replace that with the unique domain links feature from ahrefs, and have much better data on that toolbar.

Out of the 4 major browsers, Firefox is the most stable, is the 2nd fastest in overall testing when you start running java heavy pages.

Safari is getting left out but safari dominates the mobile market, making up something like 60% in that segment.

If you made me pick 1 browser that worked "best" it would be firefox, because repeated testing with ajax javascript applets on multiple computers and browsers showed that it was marginally more stable that chrome, infinitely more stable than ie9 (total pos) and I don't own a mac.

I'd go opera over IE9 also. It's quite stable and fast, but repeated testing via independent parties has shown that the most stable and overall fastest browser is actually firefox ran under linux.

Likely has to do with 90% of servers being linux based, and most of the testing is done in.... firefox under linux.

"scrub your HD"

What are the best ways to do that? Mine is about a year old and still runs fast, but not as fast. The laptop I replaced was only about three years old but really got slow.

Put all your files you need to "save" in a specific location on your harddrive at all times, and every 6 months reinstall your operating system.

That's the BEST method.

Otherwise, if it's windows based, run defrag under administration tools, and try to find a free registry cleaner.

The windows registry gets very large eventually and starts causing speed issues.

If you're sitting on a 3 year old laptop you don't use because its slow, go grab a copy of linux mint (easiest distro in the world to use) burn it to cd, and install it.

Download - Linux Mint

Laptop will seem brand new, and probably be faster than your other PC running windows, simply because the OS is so low in overhead compared to windows.

Just get the 64 bit dvd option, the one at the top, it installs all drivers automatically, even the nonfree ones that are closed source, comes with all media playing apps, flash, firefox, thunderbird, pidgin IM (like aol IM or google talk but talks to ALL platforms) gimp graphic editing, libreoffice, etc all preinstalled.

Everything is free.

You'll be shocked how much easier to use and faster it is than windows. There really is no comparison anymore. 1000s of programmers developing all the linux software finally overcame windows in quality, only took 22 years to catch and pass them.

Here's how my luck works.............I take all the necessary steps to change browsers, email accounts, computer options, ect.ect. and then the new stuff I just start getting used to starts tracking me. PITA

As long as my GF isn't tracking me I'm good LOL

Google is tracking by IP also.

Ive had instances where I turned on a clean install in virtualbox on my main computer, which technically is another computer and operating system which does not have access to the main machine, and it was getting the same "logged in" results as another computer that was logged into google, and by doing a proxy switch it stopped happening.

al3;515960 Chrome is by "do no evil" Google.... yeah right! In my mind Google is the new Microsoft... abusive said:
Do you think that the "do no evil" mission statement is an anagram for something more sinister? I kind of do...but haven't worked out what it might be...it could be any language...it's hard to trust Google....btw Firefox is the best browser I've used...imho...Opera does have a killer developer module called "Dragonfly" that is pretty cool...it might be better than the "Firebug" add in for FF....just my two cents...later guys...

IE has plenty of issues. The new version is supposed to be more intuitive, but BING is a huge problem for me and it's typically the default search engine attached to IE. I've gotten some of the strangest and most random search results form simple searches in Bing. Definitely not a fan.

According to Google Analytics, IE accounts for 50% of my traffic and Chrome only 9%. Is anyone else seeing this?

Most of my traffic comes during the day while people are at work.
