if one were to be working with a lead generating company like EFES/SECURUS (contracted at say 90%) And they were to try their stab at generating their own leads, be it mailers, newspaper, radio ect. how does that play out on policies they write that were generated from their own leads rather than the company they partnered with? What kind of % does the agent then get?

EFES gives you two writng numbers with every company. One you use for business generated from their leads and one you use for self generated business.

If an agent is at 90%, for example, on their lead business they will most likely be at 110-115% on the self generated business. maybe even a greater spread than that?

I can't tell you how Securus handles that.

To change the parameter a bit. Everyone that thinks that EFES/Securus is such a bad deal should just do the lead generation themselves for a while. Education will come. Many lessons in life are learned the hard way. Maybe that's as it should be.

I am not in the business yet but have been considering a move towards it. for me I think starting off with a company like EFES/Securus would be the way to go (starting off) to learn the business, learn the products and then eventually if I feel as tho I can do better generating my own leads then make the change to independent.

If you can make money with EFES/Securus, you should stick with it. If you don't make money, you'll probably learn a ton.

Lead generation is tough and easily worth giving up 20% of your commissions; many agents would make more money under a good lead program and "bad" contracts on a "bad" opportunity than they would doing what they're doing independent.

JD explained how EFES does it, you get 2 writing numbers. Additionally, on the self generated leads you would also have the option to write against a company/contract that you don't have with the lead company. But be very careful to keep it straight, company generated leads most be written on company contracts, only the self generated leads give you the flexability to use any contract.

Based upon what I have read on the forum and from talking with JD and Newby I think one could do much worse than starting with EFES or SECURUS.

I agree...I think companies like those are good for someone like myself to start off that has no experience in FE or Insurance.

EFES is just strong- thats a real nice way to do business- the more I hear about EFES the more I am impressed with how they run things- they seem to really do their agents right

I know Securus doesnt do that- in fact you have to fax every app directly to them even ones you generate yourself. I know an agent that wrote his wife's co-workers husband a policy- they went out of town and his mgr at Securus sent him e-mails everyday to get his client to make the PHI- Even went on to say that if he didnt do it in 2 days they were going to assign another agent to his CASE!.. yes, his lead from his wife

Keep in mind- those cats from Jersey started in the "marketing" business, generating leads for companies- saw the potential and starting their own agency- nothing wrong with that

But they are full of **** if they try and tell anybody they're "not in the lead" business- they are.. They say they mail out as much as they need to get you x amount per week- Didnt happen to an agent I know that tried them- took Securus 3 months to fill out his order- everytime he called to inquire they kept telling him he needs to "keep" ordering..

By the way, I'm neither with EFES nor Securus, so no bias from me- just telling ya what I've seen

Thanks TPA, a non biased opinion is always appreciated.
Shame to hear that about securus, I see some on here that seem to have a good experience with them, then others that dont.

I'm surprised they dont make agents assign their comm's. I first started in 98' working with Liberty National based out of Birmingham- if anybody knows that company you know what I'm talking about- Was there for 6 montsh door knocking and running a book

Got a free Sales Journal that was sent to me, read through it and found a company doing MP's with free leads- tried it out and made 135k my first year

LeadMasters outta Simi Valley.. man they kicked ass in the early 2000's.. gave me 85% contracts and free fresh exclusive leads- man I was getting 15-20 a week.. Best company I ever worked for..

Then the mortgage market crashed and they increased comm's and stopped giving out free leads.. bummer... that was the best job I ever had... miss those days...
