Commissioner Lara launches inaugural Insurance Diversity Index

Basing your business off your own perceived world views will make less money, be less successful, and be less inclusive since not too many people. If you've spent anytime in corporate America in the last twenty years and get a since of hesitation to promote minorities, your jaded. How about limits on out of country, or foreign born, individuals in CUs to correct cost and to migrate the education structure and benefit back to hmm, Californians! You guys are fooling the right people though

If companies are leaving... why would diversity even matter? Ugh.
Cause the companies are racist. Left before the diversity index. Obviously has to be that, can't be that they are bleeding surplus & can make 6-9% on surplus in fixed investments currently versus losing 15-25% from writing premium. Also, don't need many employees to manage surplus investments compared to billing/servicing/paying claims of premium

This kind of nonsense is a large part of what is wrong in CA across the entire government.

This guy isn't doing his job at all well. But lets make sure carriers are meeting your ridiculous standard that has nothing to do with delivering their core services or meeting the publics needs.

CA is a lost cause.

Nope.

While we all know this, if the company cannot be profitable and stay committed to insuring people in California... what good is it to determine a 'diversity index'?

That's as effective as rearranging the chairs on the Titanic.

Commissioner Lara is overwhelmed with the wrong priorities.
You could have just stopped with "Commissioner Lara is overwhelmed...."

Setting a new standard: Commissioner Lara launches inaugural Insurance Diversity Index
Trailblazing initiative sets a historic precedent in promoting industry-wide diversity, equity, and inclusion
LOS ANGELES — California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara today announced the launch of the inaugural Insurance Diversity Index, a groundbreaking benchmarking tool designed to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in California's insurance industry. Initial findings of the trailblazing initiative were unveiled at the 2023 Insurance Diversity Summit.

"The Insurance Diversity Index represents a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to create a more equitable and inclusive insurance industry," said Insurance Commissioner Lara. "By providing a clear benchmark, we can inspire positive change and ensure that California consumers are served by companies committed to diversity and inclusion."

The Insurance Diversity Index – spearheaded by the Department's nationally-recognized Insurance Diversity Initiative and its Insurance Diversity Task Force - is a crucial initiative aimed at increasing transparency, measuring progress, and encouraging accountability within the insurance sector. By gauging insurance companies' commitments to policies and practices that advance DEI in three key areas - diversity in the corporate boardroom, supplier diversity, and California community impact investments - the Index provides valuable insights into the industry's efforts to promote diversity and inclusivity.

"Transparency and measurement are essential in holding the insurance industry accountable for its diversity commitments," emphasized California Attorney General Rob Bonta. "The Insurance Diversity Index will empower consumers and stakeholders with information to make informed choices and drive progress."

Commissioner Lara's sentiments are shared by leaders on the Department's Insurance Diversity Task Force, including newly-elected Chair Mark Morales who said: "This Index means that consumers can be better informed about their spending power, and it encourages insurance company leaders to match their intentions with actions."

It is so nice to hear that Lara is worried about DEI agendas when all of us (diverse crowd) are suffering, carriers are failing, being downgraded, agencies are being terminated, clients are being non-renewed and there are very limited options to buy insurance. All because Lara hasn't done his job! When all else fails, at least we can have DEI! What a disgrace to California!
