I'm currently captive. If I decide to go independent, can I not contact the ins companies and get contracted with them? Do I have to go through someone?:nah:

In my opinion the first thing you should do is contact the companies direct. However, more and more companies are forcing agents to go through a marketing organization.

If you do have to go with a marketing organization be very careful which one you select. The first question you should ask is if they give an immediate, unconditional release if you request it. If they say no hang up and go to the next one. Even if they say yes, insist on getting it in writing.

You should never consider going with a general agent where your commission checks will come from him as opposed to coming directly to you from the insurance company.

What are you planning on selling? It may make a difference regarding who the agents here suggest you contact first if you can't go direct with the companies you would like to sell for.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I want to sell life, annuities, and med supp. I haven't decided on PnC. I know the renewals are good, but it is also very time consuming. (ineffecient)

I don't market for Life or Annuities but I sure can sell Med Supps.

I have trained a lot of agents to sell Med Supps. I've got a pretty smooth system that I use and spending money on leads is not a part of it. If I can help give me a call.

I will Frank. Thanks.
I've been in the biz only 3 yrs, but been hummin and dingin in sales growth.

What have you been selling?
I want to clarify something Frank said. You don't want to get paid by the GA or anybody but the insurance company itself, this is true. I just don't want you to think if you go through someone else you will automatically get paid by them and not the insurance company.

Good point Todd. I knew what I was saying but you made it a lot more clear.

Really good marketing organizations like the one you have is who he needs to talk to.

Todd just brought up a very good point.

I know what I am talking about but Todd can explain it a whole lot better than I can. He can give you a lot more detailed information about contracting with insurance companies than I can.

I have worked with him and I have found him to be very ethical and someone who you can trust not to stick it up your, ah, nose.

Give him a call, you will enjoy talking to him.

I do have a good Med Supp in Alabama with good commissions too! Of course there are a lot of other things I have too, but he for sure needs to call InsuranceExec too.
