How long do you have to be dead to collect on a life policy claim?

Suggestion - request EFT. Once they determine you are 'really most sincerely dead' you may have difficulty signing a check.

However long it takes to produce a death certificate. If under 2 years, however long to produce a death certificate with a specific cause of death listed.

If it's non-contestible many companies will pay before death certificates are issued.

Then what proof of death is utilized? Obituary??? That would be so easy to fake...

Hard to imagine any insurance company doing that without the death certificate.

In my experience it was the 'working copy DC' or 'proof of death' from the funeral home. These were assignments. The FH got their money and the bene got their's directly from the company.
When my mother died I had check in hand the AM of the second day.
