Did you just lose your favorite fraternal?

FEX - I have zero doubt that FEX will still be here and will thrive. There may be an agent shake up, but that is normal with big changes.

KSKJ - were they lying then or are they lying now?

Smiling Faces....

Many of us have worked with 'agent friendly' 'business friendly' companies that changed or de mutualized.

Am I company / agency cynical or experienced?

Life goes on.

Probably all of that. Except the agent shake up. I don't see that happening. FEX agents will just write other companies. They all do anyway.

I'm not a company man and never will be. I've always known that agents are just a necessary evil to the companies.

We don't have to like a company to use a company. I liked what did for 8 and a half years. I don't like what they did now.

I'll be OK. Will they?

I doubt there is a non captive agent that has been around for any legnth of time that hasn't been through this in one form or another. I have had companies that I loved to do business with that have changed direction. Some were sold, taken over or even went belly up. Was never pleasant but we always survived. P he hardest one was a company that decided to get out of the major medical business. Cancelled the entire block of business. My renewal check was cut by several thousand dollars over night. Sent us scrabling for other carriers. That is when we went with a Jack Londen company called Legacy Life.. wasn't long before they declared bankrupcy. They are one reason I never had much use for Lincoln Heritage.

I believe DTC stands for direct to consumer. In other words, their future production will come from salaried agents doing telesales from their home office? This way they can eliminate paying advances which means they can stll be profitable keeping their rates and underwriting the same as it's alwys been.

This way the advances they pay out will be a lot less since non DTC agents are getting business from referrals rather than leads. In other words this is their 1st step to eilminate their agent sales force and wil do everyhing in house paying salaries rather than commisions and advances and renewals? Just a guess on my part.

OK.. I always think of Direct to Consumer as meaning marketing in the manner of Colonial Penn.

Nope. They plan to advertise and have prospects enroll themselves. No agent involved.

No agents other than in house company employees answering the phones.

This is speculation on my part, but I believe this is closer to what KSKJ intends to do. Seems like they want to market to their current customers and fraternal members, using their eapp, in hopes of having folks apply for coverage with no salesperson needed.

I used to write colonial penn simplified life a long time ago . I was contracted with senior mkt sales. I won a nice paper weight that says "successful people do those things that failures refuse to do " I still got it in my desk
