Direct Mail Response Rates

WOW, .3% .... Rediculous! Would those of you who actually do your own drops chime in? I'm about to do my own 2000 piece drop and if it's that bad, I could be knocked out of the game all together.. It's good to hear from the guys who are with EFES and Securus but I would really like to hear from the guys who Drop On Their Own, PLEASE, what percentage can I expect to see returned if I drop TODAY? thanks....

When I did my own mail I got .03-.04% during the good times. if I got a .07% it was cause for celebration. I'm sure it would be less than that during the holiday season.

I am glad that I don't have to do that stuff anymore. If I were still ddoing my own I would not mail during this time.

Lots of good feedback here and I kind of expected to hear this. Before October I was consistently getting 1 - 1.2% which works out perfect for me when I send 2000 mailers.

I have been working old leads and producing about 3k/week but I am having to work at least twice as hard, if not more!

Thanks for the feedback guys.

There's a lot of mail pieces floating around out there! I knock doors so none of this affects me but I have noticed recently that EVERYONE I talk to has multiple direct mail pieces from all sorts of different companies. I don't bother to sort 'em out but most say the same thing.

Lots of homes I'm in have a collection of these and they ask me about them. I really don't know how to respond so I make a joke out of it and laugh it off. I have only been doing this for several months but it does seem as if there are more mail pieces out there. Has anybody else noticed this?

How about annuity leads that reference social security changes, I have seen kramer has some new ones and they are quoting response rates of 5% in Florida. The interest could be high with potential repeal of the bush tax cuts.

A 5% response rate on annuity leads? Sounds like the "changes to medicare" leads, lots of responses, very few good prospects.

theinsuranceman has a valid point, but I read a threat trying to remember where an agent said he had a high success rate in December. And you can't just stop marketing because where will that leave you in January...twiddling your thumbs while you build up momentum from scratch.

If you have an existing client base. Try working it. I'm talking about Life Insurance. Just call them to check on them and see how they are doing and see if they need to make any changes to their coverage/protection.

has anyone had any success in cold call door knocking without any lead card in hand for final expense?
Thank you

I have never tried true cold knocking...I have always taken a lead card with me when I knock...With that said, I dont always take a lead card, most of the time I just take a duplicate mailer from a previous list...works well if you knock enough doors.

The math nerd in me won't let this go.

1000 x .03% = .3

1000 x .3% = 3
