Do I Need a License?

That is going to depend on your state requirements. Most states don't require that you "park" your license anywhere. All states require that you be licensed before you can split fees on insurance products. That carries over to any sort of compensation that results from the sale of an insurance product.

Get the license and then worry about how to handle contracting.

Thank You... I will do that.

Some states have a solicitor's license in addition to an agent/ broker's license which might be a fit here. I dont know whether that license enables commission splits or not. You have to be familiar with the licensing structure in your state.

Basically, I am just thinking out loud. Short answer is: Get a full insurance license so that you are not some type of watered down person.

Selling the policy and writing the app is the easy, fun part of being in insurance. The "not so fun" part is prospecting and finding people who are interested.

Lots of agents fail each year, not because they are not good at selling, but because they do not know how to prospect. This board if full of agents who are looking for someone to "make appointments" for them.

I believe that it is basically because they either do not know how to prospect and don't want to learn or because they are just lazy.

You are doing the hard part by finding the people who are "qualified buyers". Why not experience the fun, money making part of insurance and sell to the people you find? You will never make a lot of money just finding people for other agents to try to sell something to.

You will give up a lot of commission, renewals and other benefits that agents have. You are going to have to work everyday while some agents make a lot of money only working a few hours a day and in many cases only a few days a week.

Just a thought.

Hello,

First time here and very green so I hope I don't offend anyone here.... My question is this:

Do I need a license if my role is to serve as a bridge between a prospective client and the insurance agency? My role would be to find clients in my area that would be interested in receiving a quote from the insurance agency. No selling just providing printed literature and a contact person for them to call. My compensation would only be realized if they switch policies.

I am not even sure if this is legal to do in Florida nor if this is a "pie in the sky" idea. Just putting out there for those of you that have the knowledge and wisdom to advice a newbee like me.

Thank you for your attention:)

First, be careful... If your comp is driven by sales then this is commission… In order to receive commission you must be a licensed agent. That being said, yes you can set appointments for insurance sales as long as you don’t talk about insurance, the product or price. Good luck.
