Do You Like the "Pretty Girl" Pop-up Video on Sites?

Do you guys dislike the loud/intrusive "pretty girl" video that starts up on sites that sell to insurance agents (see link above.)

I seem to find more of them on insurance vendor sites than any other. Brokers Alliance used to have one but I think a lot of guys complained and they took it off.

I often have my speakers turned on as I listen to music on the computer (the new Macs have kick-butt built in speakers... don't know how they get such great sound out of a such tiny space) and I find "Welcome to XYZ where we can solve all your problems..." to be intrusive.

Is it just me?

Unless it is absolutely necessary, I never buy anything from companies who have intrusive sites, but maybe you younger agents like them?

Personal preference but I don't. I don't think any audio or video should automatically plan when you hit a website.

And instead of some "model" talking I'd much rather was the owner or president of the company go over the benefits.

AL: What is your fascination with these pretty girl pop ups? You have posted on this before haven't you? Essentially what I am saying (respectfully) is who cares how people market. Sex sells. Who cares.

Agreed - I can't stand it when audio or video starts playing automatically when I hit a website. I really don't like the little woman, either.

The people who feel that the marketing is disturbing probably care. I don't like any kind of popups and such, but they don't really bother me so much.
I do somehow care how people market, because how the best and most does their marketing usually works and good marketing ways I'm really interested about.

I mostly ignore these...If it were my site, I would be more worried that the user's bandwidth decides the load speed and could be a turn off to prospects...Sometimes the bells and whistles are nothing more then a distraction.

And there in lies the problem with marketing in general which includes your site design. It's next to impossible to gauge how much business you're losing.

That side may claim success using that pop up model, saying their business is doing great. But what if their business increased 20% without it?

A good way to evaluate the effectiveness is to really study the web stats of your site. A month over month comparison of traffic and click throughs could help one get to a reasonable understanding of the effectiveness. Granted if you are pushing our other campaigns that are driving traffic to your site it could muck up the data. But to that point, you could use custom urls for your offline campaigns versus online.

I have to agree with you Al on the popups being annoying. That said one the first people I saw deploy the strategy was Dan Kennedy so I'd venture to say it has a level of effectiveness.

Why don't you email the guy back and tell him a more fitting name for "one of his many sites" would be reallyoldphonebook.com as that would more accurately describe the quality of the data.
