Does USAA Have the Best Rates

The thing about USAA---I don't recall ever hearing an ad by them that says they can give the lowest rates. They don't purport to have the lowest rates.

Their retention and customer service stats are the best in the biz too. Ask 100 veterans and/or active duty members what they think of USAA and 97-99 will tell you they wouldn't switch and the longer you are with them, the less likely you are to ever switch.

Also, when disaster strikes, no Company is on the ground faster (helping its members) than USAA.

A close friend of mine is a Sgt. in the Army, and has USAA. He pays 60'ish dollars a month for two newer suv's, both with low deductibles. You can't beat that with a stick!

That may be the first negative word I ever heard about USAA. They have a lot of positive word of mouth.

My dad was a veteran. He never thought much good about USAA.

They are just another insurance company with a marketing angle. They aren't perfect. They must have pretty good customer service if you accept calling a toll free number as good service.

Well, maybe my words "USAA sucks" was a bit harsh. They may very well be a good company for all I know but when I hear the radio ad and that they seemed to cater to military, I just naturally assumed like most others would that "hey, they probably got the best rates for military, let me call them". Turned out that was not the case. But hey, the marketing seems to be working: they got me to call!

To more directly answer posters question: No, based on my experience they do not have the best rates! :1smile:

I am sure that they are far from perfect but they do have a lot of loyal customers including posters on this forum.

I'm an independent agency owner in San Diego, and have quoted many of my friends over the last 17 years who had USAA and wanted me to compare. They are all still with USAA. I've only come close a couple of times when everything was packaged. They seem to take care of their clients too, as all of my friends were very happy with them.

Sounds like you should refer all your customers to them.

Ha ha ha, no I don't refer anyone to them. Was just making the point that they have low rates. Most people don't qualify for them anyway, as you have to be military or a veteran, or family.

It does seem that they try to stretch that connection as far as possible.

Yeah, I don't doubt that. They might have low rates, but they lack the personal relationship that an agent provides. Some people are only concerned with price, but many see the value of dealing with someone they know, like, and trust.
