As you may remember, business owners were supposed to release information to their employees about the new healthcare options that would be available to them come 1/1/14 (I believe the date for notification was 3/1/13, but was pushed back indefinitely when the date got near because they had no guidance available.)

Well, the guidance is here: http://www.dol.gov/ebsa/newsroom/tr13-02.html <Official news release

Employer offers coverage> http://www.dol.gov/ebsa/pdf/FLSAwithplans.pdf

Employer DOESN'T offer coverage>

There is nothing groundbreaking or unexpected in these forms.

"Employers are required to provide the notice to each new employee at the time of hiring beginning October 1, 2013. For 2014, the Department will consider a notice to be provided at the time of hiring if the notice is provided within 14 days of an employee’s start date. " Current employees must receive the document by 10/1/13.

I see the word "required" quite often, but I can't say that I've seen the penalties for not providing these notices. Does anyone have any idea about the penalty?

Come to think of it, no, I haven't heard a single word on this specific penalty. They may release guidance on how much trouble you're in after the fact.
