Employee Versus Independent Contractor?

I'm looking to add a producer to my firm. Ideally, I'd like to pay them hourly + commission. I'm trying to get a better understanding of the pros/cons of hiring as an employee or independent contractor? Anybody out there feel confident about sharing some info on this topic?

There are Pros/Cons on both sides. I'd be happy to share our experience from having agents as independent contractors then switching to employee if you'd like to PM me. Our attorneys always advised us that if we tied the person to time in any fashion then they had to be employees.
