Exchanges Are Mistakes...not Markets

Yah think NBC is a little off base with this comment:

"But the Affordable Care Act never promised lower premiums."

and this comment just shows ignorance with many companies balking at participating in the exchanges:

No one's quite sure yet what they will look like, but it's becoming increasingly clear that many of them, at least, will provide an overwhelming range of choices for millions of people who may never have had to choose health insurance before

Insurance exchanges: Be ready to be overwhelmed - Health - Health care | NBC News

What insurer would want to play in a active purchaser exchange? I doubt CA will have the number of bids they are suggesting in this article:

California One of 2 States to Force Health Insurer Bids - Bloomberg

Then, on the fed exchanges, which is it, 3 yrs for bidding, or can be declined in first year?

The federal government is building and running exchanges in 26 states and doing most of the work in seven others. The Obama administration has told insurers they won't have to bid to get into the federal exchanges for at least three years.
"If the rates for a proposed plan are determined to be unreasonable or inappropriate," the marketplaces may exclude the plan, Alicia Hartinger, a spokeswoman for the U.S. health agency's Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight, which is building the federal exchanges, said in an e-mail.

Bill, do you get the feeling this thing is unraveling before our eyes?

(insert Beavis and Butthead laugh track here)

I do, but it will roll out, no matter how chaotic it is, just to save face. Just in time for the 2014 elections ;)

But will the lack of Patient Protections and Affordable Care cause a Democract backlash at the polls?

I believe so.

I believe so.

Which way will the backlash go? Do you feel the voters will be disgusted with the Dems, or disgusted with Bush, the GOP and evil insurance companies?

Obama can't be touched, and some of the folks who promoted this mess are still up there. But I do expect blowback against (mostly) Dems over this.

If done correctly, the Dems. If not, the Dems will say it was GOP obstruction that caused it - which isn't true at all, the plan was terribly designed and rushed through due to Kennedy's death.

A little due diligence would have gone a LONG way on this, as illustrated by "we have to pass it to find out what's in it."

I certainly hope the blame falls squarely on this administration's shoulders, but the Dems have been the experts at winning support lately! The 2012 election had an amazing turn-out of people who had never voted before, just because of who was up for re-election. I think this non-presidential election will not have that turn-out. It's very possible that the Dems could lose some seats over this one.

I believe this is one of the reasons why Boehner is NOT going to try and defund HHS during the upcoming continuing resolution. He sees it unraveling, and doesn't want the blame for not providing the chinese money.
