Feds Say They Fixed Medicaid Problem for Children

Just because they gt through the gate of the dumb website, can't the government come back and audit the enrollment? If a child was eligible for Medicaid but was able to enroll in a subsidized plan then what happens?

My client went through the medicaid approval process, but was denied.
Has denial letter from medicaid.

What I've experienced (and this may not be true across the board) is that if the family had previously tried to get the kids approved by Medicaid, and the state has a record of that, it continually comes up & the kid is tossed to Medicaid for determination (even though we know he won't be approved). No way around it as far as I can see. I give an indy plan if they want to purchase one, but the big problem here is that now the child has his own high deductible to meet & is not grouped into the family deductible. That's more of a problem in my mind than the separate premium . . . . .ugh!

When you add a new born, what data is the site requesting. Just had a client have a child. SS has not be issued. Wondering what the site will ask for.
Thanks

We will find out how the children work on Monday. I have a divorced dad with 2 children only one he claims on taxes and I believe the kids can get on their step dads group plan. I believe one of the questions is get from a parent or step parent. Should be lots of fun.

I tried the "life change" button to add a new born. It basically sent me back through the entire application (family of 5 was not fun time wise). At this point it looks like adding the new born (6th person) has caused the father and youngest three kids to go to Medicaid?? Now the site it not allowing me to log back in. Once I put in the user id and password, I get a blank screen.

What are others seeing with the "life change" button?

blank screen.. clear your browser history

I've done three families today, 100% of them are over the minimum and should be no where near Medicaid, 100% of the kids are kicked to Medicaid. I'm advising to go ahead and enroll the parents and fight for the kids when they get the letter from the state... if they get the letter from the state. That was the advise I was giving by calling the exchange.

I am assuming from what I read on this thread there would be a SEP for adding kids rejected for Medicaid on applications being done now. The income level kicks the kid under 19 to Medicaid.

Just had one last night, finishing app today. The Medicaid app will take a while, and I am not too worried about rejection, but the client asked what if...

Special enrollment periods.

York, check the link for the 1 relevant page from the law that defines SEP generating qualifying events.

Denial of Medicaid application is not one. No-fault loss of existing Medicaid is.

It likely falls under the final QE category, "the individual meets other exceptional circumstances". Just be aware, rejection of an app is not a defined QE.

Called HC.gov this morning. Rep says to have the client call them if they are rejected by Medicaid; They will help to enroll the child. She said they consider that a special enrollment category.

Yes, it wouldn't be "loss of Medicaid", because they never had it. I did read the page you referenced, saw that it doesn't specifically address the applied/denial situation. Thus the call to HC.

Thanks to all who contribute here, it's a huge help.
