Feel Great About This Agency

Heard from David. He doesn't know anything about those folks.

He suggested . . . Travelers

But you have been down that road already.

Call Jack Wilson. He might have some ideas.

Tell him Bob Vineyard suggested you call.

Another is Bob Johnson

Bob probably retired. I think his son Doug is running the shop now. If Bob is still around (and in) he will probably remember me.

Doug may not.

First of all, Bob, is there anyone you don't know or have contacts with?!?!? LOL

Also, what's stopping you from going independent? If you've had a bad experience already?

Bob,

Thank you! I will call both gentlemen tomorrow. Really appreciate you checking in on it, and I'll post to let you know what comes from it.

Best regards,

Shaun

Maybe I am missing something here but why wouldn't you just go as an independent and pick which ever companies you wanted to represent and work from home?

$$$$$

Don't have the capital up front to make that happen. Don't have a home phone either, just a cell. Don't have unlimited minutes either. The list goes on. But primarily...

$$$$$

This sounds like a situation that you will pursue so I wish you well. This is a situation that you need to remember Rule Number One. Ask yourself what happens when I leave? You should have two concerns: an upfront release on all your appointments and no non-compete.

Bill Knight contacted me this morning to let me know he and his staff wanted me to come in to speak with them again next week. I can only assume an offer will be presented to me (why ask me to come in again?) and they'll have me take a personality assessment to see who in their office I would work the best with... my understanding is that I'm assigned to an experienced producer in the office who helps me with my business plan and target market.

I'll definitely take this all to the table to make sure I don't put myself in a precarious situation if I stop working there. I really hope that would never become a factor, but it's very good to be aware of the pitfalls. Thanks everyone. I think an offer in writing is on the way on Wednesday. My wife is an attorney, she aced Contracts in Law School, and so I'll be sure she reads through it to cover all the bases with me.

:) Thanks everyone! You've all been very helpful.

Be careful to balance out the legal bit. You have to watch out for the factors that others mentioned without being an anal, legal twit in the interview process. Your wife is an attorney but attorneys are notorious deal killers too and dont know squat about the give and take of the business world. You need a job and income and you are not going to bond with anyone by getting too persnickity. At the same, as discussed, ferret out the basics so there are no surprises down the road. Assume that you have already started to form a team with them, while "getting clarification on the basics so that we can go forward together." Most agencies are looking for smart people who are quick learners. Be careful not to cross that line where "smart" appears "intellectual". Some of the down home folks are not comfortable with that.

Good luck to ya, again.
