5-Star Life is a related company of the Armed Forces Benefit Association (AFBA) which has provided group life insurance for military personnel and their families for over 60-years.

Just read the back of the brochure. It explains it pretty well. There are several companies that mainly serve military families (United States Automobile Association USAA) being the most well known. The AFBA is one of them. 5-Star Life is an insurance affiliate to the AFBA.

You do not have to be connected to the military to purchase their insurance product though.

And aren't they the only one without the act of war exclusion??? I may be off on that, but it seems like I read it somewhere.

I'm sure all the companies that deal with military families don't have a war exclusion.

I don't know of any FE companies where I have seen a war exclusion but 5-Star does make a point of mentioning it in their brochure. They have a great brochure with very strongly worded guarantees.

5 Star or USAA? I have mine with USAA. No war exclusion. Which is good as we'll probably all be in Syria soon.
Don't know of any company with an "Act of War" exclusion for Life Insurance.. The AD&D rider and Health insurance, yes but not life..

I run into many active and veterans that use USAA. Until a few months ago I had never heard of 5-Star. GPM is another company that actively writes military.

Not many war clauses on the base policy. However, many will not cover act of war on a disability waiver. Protective as an example will cover act of war on the base and waiver. That could be huge for the family of a wounded warrior. Also, companies vary on if or how they write active duty.

With all these companies including USAA it is just a niche market that they choose to market to. They have no official connection to the military or the government. They do require a military or government connection to have access to their product though.
