Fl Carriers Announced

Not a surprise that the White House only compared the 2nd lowest Silver plan premiums, if those went down it has much to do with the small insurers (Molina, etc) lowering their rates.

Of course, now that those rates are down, subsidies will also go down and make the rates for the Silver plans that people really want go up even more.

What a mess, consumers will really need the help of a good agent during OEP and hopefully most of the newbies lured in my false promises are long gone from the business by now.

Spot on!! We had the cheapest second silver plan in the nation in AZ (health net's HMO was 20-33% cheaper than everyone else), which caused our citizens to get the least amount of subsidies in the nation, which in turn caused all of my clients to pay a lot more, especially for any PPO plan.

And what happens if everyone buys this limited HMO network second silver plan? The few doctors taking it, will be filled up (capitation), and can't take any new patients.

Ex of the effects of low cost silver plans:
In FL, I could get someone down to $1-50/mo for a bronze/ silver plan with Aetna because the second silver price was higher compared to other plans causing subsidies to be higher.

In AZ, the cheapest plan I sold was over $125/mo.

If Aetna did indeed lower their rates by an average of 5% it is great news for all independent brokers as it will skyrocket FB premiums for subsidized plans relative to Aetna (down 5% vs up 17%).

I just did a subsidized Aetna plan for a client a few weeks ago, she was 110% of FPL and her premium is $50, total premium $305.

FB was about the same but if they go up even 15%, their premium is now $350 while Aetna stays about the same.

FB net premium paid by client would go to $100, Aetna stays at $50. And anyone with an FB plan for 2014 is going to look at the difference and want options.

I wish that were true FLM, about the newbie's but there is heavy recruiting going on all over the state with guess who? Yep, daily ads on craigslist in most county's and one of the them I believe you know or wish not to know.

That may be true but I don't care about Blue newbies at all, they now have rates that are 20% more than their competition and absolutely no knowledge, I'm sure each new agent will be successful with all that going for them...

I agree, blue is throwing business away and agents. The majority of new policyholders are looking for price. Networks are strong in panhandle but so are Aetna and Coventry, an agent appointed with them can have a field day up here. Humana won't be an issue up here and I doubt golden rule, UHC's network has shrunk up here after their bs with the med advantage last year. A new agent may have one or two possibly three years of this and that's about it. Then on to the SEP's.

This year is your chance to blow out of your agency, Aetna is looking at more flat commissions for first year and renewals as are a couple of the others, you could move a bunch of people and be set for a long time.
