Why is it that the hundreds of people I've talked to LOVE the VA in Houston? Why is this? Why? I have offered them more benefits and they could keep the VA but they won't budge WHY IS THAT? These folks just rave and gush VA Houston.

That's not the norm. The VA center in Illinois is horrible. I wouldn't take my dogs there.

Ever see those thousands of people at Honda meetups?
Ever see someone who prefers a flip phone over a smart phone?
Ever see a fan of that Honey Boo Boo show (they're out there, it was the most watched show on tv for a while)?

The fact that they like it just means they haven't experienced how much better the alternative is, or can't comprehend that there is a system out there better than "the veteran care of the world's greatest superpower".

The VA "works" because veterans are less demanding patients

When the weather was pleasant a large number of veterans would not show up for their scheduled CT scan or MRI. When the weather was miserable or dangerous the attendance would be maximum.


We named this phenomenon the "VA paradox": a paradox because this is the opposite of what usually happens.

Government is good when a situation requires force: DUI arrest, collecting child support, etc or for big stuff like highway systems.

When it comes to something like healthcare it is a failure. Only a fool does not understand this. One only need to look at the Veterans Affairs system to see how horrible and inefficient government is. Today in fact the news is that the Veteran's Affairs sent an appointment notice to a vet who died two years ago (apparently waiting for his appointment).

Strange that the U.S.A ranks world wide as number one in health care expenditure but lags in outcome in most WHO categories.

I have run into the same thing here in NC. We have two VA hospitals. I have two clients that actually did not sign up for part B in order to save the premium, using the instead. They love it. I have been able to add MAPD's in some cases to enable them to use local providers instead of making that drive to the VA for something minor.

The folks that love the VA must be the same folks that say Canada, Cuba and GB have a wonderful system and no one ever complains.

I had one prospect that was making the journey to Audie Murphy VA in San Antonio for cancer treatments he and many many others believe that is the Holy Grail of medical care.

I've presented many MA plans to vets and they're like "I already have all that!" I'm like you can still use the VA it doesn't interfere with that at all. Then they say I'm just going to stick with the VA thanks anyway.
