Florida shooting...

of course the issue is much deeper. Have I mentioned a simple answer? no. I just think we can do a much better job vetting people and mental illness should be an immediate knock out.

The problem here is "what is your definition of mental illness?" And will that change or be amended as time goes on. Think about "hate crimes" and what that has grown to encompass as time has gone on. And as to a better job of vetting... too many people in this young man's case had that opportunity "before the fact" and nothing was done?

Sorry, I in no way want to give offense on this issue. It is one close to heart because of all the hurt I see in this world. The side of the business that unless you are in it, you can hardly explain to those closest to you.

The forum I feel is often a (safe?) place to vent. On this issue I am doing just that. Have kiddo's at home and in college... I can't imagine the emotions and loss of others at this moment. Heartbreaking.

In most states it's way too simple to get a weapon. I don't think it should be easy. I want people to have weapons who deserve and know how to use them. How to store them properly. Of sound mind.

Right now it's crazy if you mention tightening regulations gun nuts explode thinking everyone is gonna take their shit. Once again it's one of those topics that the middle ground is the correct answer but both sides are so radical nothing gets done.

The middle ground changes every time you take it... that's why we have as many gun laws now as we do. Take a look at the regs. in the 50's that will blow your mind. Very few laws, very few shootings???

Today, Chicago, not far from me, has some of the toughest gun laws on the books... take a peek at the number of shootings.

Law abiding folks are wondering how many more laws are you doing to put up before you just take them away? Laws are like locks they are for honest people.

Just to brush against a subject most won't even touch, the influence of faith has been slowly drained from our public schools as we be come much more "civilized". We are to the point now where there are no more moral absolutes, as they just get in the way of what our opinions are or how we "feel". The results of this experiment... just turn on the news or open up a paper.

These are not just idle remarks of a rambling fool, there is now more history to look at than ever... but we don't want to concern ourselves with messy facts that leave us to question the poor choices that led us to where we are. Much like that FE client that didn't plan ahead and now is unable to take action... now what?

no the middle ground does not change every time you take it. Over time yea sure....you know long ago the 50's were? how different life is? Very few laws very few shootings? come on. Correlation vs causation.

anecdotes anecdotes anecdotes. I'm aware the number of shootings and also aware they've had the same issues with and without the ban which was deemed unconstitutional. I'm really not even talking about that though.

Law abiding folks are wondering how many more laws are you doing to put up before you just take them away? Laws are like locks they are for honest people.

fallacious.....you are jumping to "they will take them away". I'm simply stating people with mental health issues shouldn't be able to buy guns. How is that so hard to understand? Please don't act like all of a sudden you won't be able to have a gun. laws like locks for honest people......makes no sense. Can you explain that in relation to gun control? Like you don't think we should have any gun restrictions whatsoever?

we have become a more educated open society that is more intelligent than the previous. this trend will continue.

this is so vague i don't even understand what you are trying to say.

Nothing wrong with better background checks, especially for carry concealed.

But when people have been vetted and are given carry concealed, let them carry when on school campuses. These nasty little nut jobs that want to shoot up schools pick schools because they know with certainty that no one will shoot back.

Sorry neither history nor math support your argument. I would suggest that you just do some good old investigation minus the emotion.

I don't have any emotion. You are talking to someone who thinks the 2nd amendment is very important. You are being the emotional one rambling on about this and that. I've done research on this for so long it's unreal....from all sides.I clearly can see you have not. The stats aren't in favor of full ban (which would be dumb) but stricter controls on how simple it is to get a gun can help. Out of the 200+ mass shootings I think 160 of them the gun was bought legally and many of those had prior law issues or mental issues. Dylan roof was able to get a weapon because after 3 days if a background check isn't completed it automatically is approved. how can you be sane and think that's a good idea? Good people will always be able to get weapons go protect themselves. It just needs to a bit more difficult.
