Foresters: Are They Always this Inept?

Ok, I will apologize up front for venting, or whining, whatever the case may be. But, I am so frustrated with Foresters that I hope I never come across the same circumstances as this case. I never want to submit an app to them again!

Almost two weeks ago, I submitted an app on a client that would only fit into Foresters underwriting criteria. None of the other carriers I have in my bag would approve this lady for level coverage. The client was insistent on writing a check for the first premium payment, with all subsequent payments being auto draft from her checking account. Since the first payment was by check, I had to snail mail the app to Foresters in Buffalo.

On Monday, 7/22, I received an email from Foresters telling me that I failed to include the "Producer certification of sales" form in the app. For those of you that don't know, this is required whenever replacing a policy with Foresters, in this case Colonial Penn. I know I sent it in, as I triple checked everything, and specifically remember placing this form in the envelope, along with the rest of the app. Ok, no big deal, Foresters is a huge company, right? I'm sure I'm not the first, nor last, agent to have a form turn up missing.

So, as requested, first thing Tuesday morning, I fax them a copy of the form. On Tuesday night, I receive another email from Foresters, telling me that they only received the cover letter of my fax, and I needed to re-fax the stupid form. So, first thing Wednesday morning, I call new business. I spoke to a nice young man, and gave him the exact date, time, and fax # that I had faxed the form to. He does some research and, low and behold, he finds the form. He informs me all is good, and the app will be moved forward for "replacement review". I am thinking, "ok, cool', this had become a little bit of a PITA, but things are good now"

Well, tonight, I receive another email from Foresters. This time, I am informed that the form they received was "black, and half of the page has been cut off".

Once again, I will call them in the morning. But, I am about ready to call my client and tell her to just keep Colonial Penn, and tell Foresters to shove it where the sun doesn't shine. Although, I was able to save her money, and get her a higher DB with Foresters, I am actually starting to think I may have done her a disservice. This was my first submission to Foresters and, based on the experience so far, I am starting to think she would just be better off sticking with Colonial Penn. If I can help it, I will never write another policy with Foresters.

Thanks for allowing me to vent:)

SOP with Foresters. Then the fun really begins if they want to change banks or change a beneficiary. And heavens forbid there is a claim.

Short answer, YES. Wait until claim time, that's when it gets REALLY fun. Once you have your first claim you may want to explain the process to your Foresters book o' bidness and see if they would like "options".

Just got off the phone with them. Not exactly apologetic. Now, they are telling me to scan and email the form. Will try that, and see if it actually works. This will be my last time ever using this POS company. If I ever run into this situation again, I will just tell the client to pass and stay put. Commish is not worth dealing with this company!

Yes, because every other company is perfect...

I'm not defending Foresters as I really don't have any dealings with them. But plenty of companies make plenty of mistakes. If it is just one time it isn't the end of the world. At least they are asking you instead of just pending out the certificate and leaving it for you to figure out.

Actually, I believe the form they were referring to is the producer report, the one you put the reference ID from apptical on. Required on any application, and different from the state required replacement form. Hopefully you sent them the correct form.

They are relatively easy to work with unless you make a mistake (and we all do sometimes). Then it is hell on earth getting the case issued.

No, it's the "producer's certification of materials used in replacement form".

I have been writing Foresters for 4 years and have never heard of that form.

And as far as them having problems paying off death claims, I haven't found that to be the case at all. In fact I have seen them pay a few claims that I expected them to deny.

Yes from time to time they do have problems but for the most part they are decent to deal with. They email every step of the way and keep you up on all pending applications, which can also be a plus.

And for the guy who claimed he replaced all those Foresters policies. I doubt it very much. I have written hundreds of policies through Foresters and don't recall ever having one replaced. Their prices are very fair, and with all the free benefits, on paper they compare very favorably to any of the others, including Americo, UHL . Aetna etc.

good post, I agree with what you have stated. My only real complaint with them is their incompetent phone support, they are no help at all, they always say that they have to email the "plan right department", and can not resolve any issues at all, only promise to call back. Then they never return calls like they say they will.

If somehow he was replacing those policies using the state guaranty fund, he is playing with fire as we all know that is against state regulations.
