Foresters Death Claim?

JD, I had a case I wrote with Foresters in Nov. 2010, and the client died March 2011 for $15,00 death benefit. It took about 6 weeks to pay claim but they paid out. About 3 weeks of the delay was waiting on an APS they ordered from the clients doctor.
I know from previous posts you have been quite successful in the FE Expense market. Has most of your business been with other carriers?

Yes. I don't use Foresters much. Maybe about 20 applications a year. I used then more for term several years ago. They weren't my go to company for that either.

Just been lucky that none of my Foresters' clients have died. Until this one, of course.

They are so hard to deal with on everything. I just figured their claims would be more of the same. For example I just wrote one of their term policies last week. It was approved today, but only after they went ballistic over a "materials used" form that I had sent in with the app, but they didn't get.

I asked them to send the approved policy to me for delivery and they said they couldn't since it was approved as applied for. I asked them to make an exception as I wanted to deliever this policy, they still insisted that they couldn't do that.

Others seem to like them. I can't figure out why.

You will be charged back any unearned portion of your advance. You will not be charged back the earned portion if the claim is paid. If it's not paid you will be charged back everything paid.

You have never had a client die in the contestability period? Every company I've ever been contracted with have said that they contest 100% of claims in the contestability period.

Once I wrote a 15k FE with the now defunct State Mutual Patriot FE and the man died 3 weeks later. Spouse received check a few days after they received death certificate.

It wasn't an accidental death so I was surprised it wasn't contested.

It's been 4 months since I started this thread. The claim was a month old then. It is still not settled.

That's terrible. The poor family.
Thank G-d, I've only had one death claim on any policy I've written; it was paid out in less than 2 weeks.

They finally paid mine. It took them a full 9-months to pay. They had ALL the medical records by 3-months and only then because I pushed them.

When it had been 8-months and my client wanted to know if we could have ANY time frame committment (60-more days? 120-more days? 1-year?) they said NO. They are backlogged and they can take 5-years to decide if they want to.

Then I called just another random day in month 9. It wasn't decided yet. I called up the ladder and they looked at it and just spur of the moment decided to pay the claim.

It's the strangest claim department I've ever dealt with.
