Had a client that I could not tell if they were a man or a woman. Had my suspicion but still had to ask for their ID first. Which made the client irritated. They said, why do you need to see my id? I said to either qoute you as a male or female. They said they identify themselves as a female so they deserve female rates. I said Sir/Mam insurance companies dont care how you identify. If you we're born with a penis then I have to quote you as a male.

Has anyone else had a similar appointment?

Yes.

First one was a conversion. Was born and issued as male. On the conversion wanted every thing to say female on the policy. I punted the call to the company. Solution - Policy says Female, Male rates.

On a case I wrote I simply explained the companies do not care about the outside parts. It is normally the inside parts that determine our mortality. In that case it was not an issue, the person took the policy. In another, they pitched a fit and I suggested they shop around and call me back. That was a few years ago. I assume they are still shopping and are going to call me any minute.

Had this discussion 2 weeks ago with agency owner. We are waiting for the day that we are faced with this dilemma since auto and life rates are based on genetics. We already cannot say prove it when 2 people present and say married. It is just a matter of time before all insurers are re-rating in my opinion and my guess is rates increase

I am thinking about a refinance and the mortgage broker asked me what gender I identify as. He knew I was male, but had to ask.

When you ask for their ID, just tell them its the patriot act, and KYC laws, AML, and to run the MVR
A couple of my carriers require DL or ID numbers for that very reason - because of their particular interpretation of the Patriot Act.

There are two parts to this discussion... the actual business related discussion and the other...

I agree with shonceman... on the business side... this is going to place female clients at a loss... companies are not going to loose money on dumb males...

On the other side... has the world shifted so far... if we can go so far as to deny our sexuality based off of how we feel... then does a company have the right to assess our sexuality on how they feel...

We live in a day and age when corporations are attempted to be seen as acting like individuals... therefore the logic would follow that if someone can self-identify, then someone else should be able to reassess that identity based on their feelings...

Long post... I just fear the end consequences of what we have begun...

According to the Libs, you should be able to decide each morning whether you're going to be a male, or a female depending on how you feel that day. :swoon:

Out of the other side of their mouths, they push gender neutral. Can't use the word snowman or salesman anymore. No more Batman, Superman or Wonder Woman. Screw those Libs!!! I'm a salesman and I'm NOT PC!!!
