Getting Back into the Market

This forum is terrific, I wish I had found it years ago not just for the information but for the sometimes juvenile humor.

I have worked in the insurance industry in various capacities for about 15 years with 10 years is sales. I have made most of the mistakes possible in this business; career agent, captive agent, working for a GA with commission assignment, contracting with NAA, etc. I worked FE part-time with business market in South Carolina and FE on a full-time basis in Pennsylvania with Bankers Life (BIG mistake on this one). Moved to Arizona, decided not to work FE and went with NAA for mortgage protection. Got teaching degree even worse decision.

I am now in Colorado which is making me go through a required pre-licensing class. (let the AZ license lapse) Going back to FE with Medicare Sups, I know this market and am comfortable with it. I will be working as an independent and am looking at Senior Life and Lincoln Heritage as main carriers with Todd as FMO for his carrier block. I will working the western slope (western edge of the Rockies).

Anyone of the forum working this area or familiar with the prime carriers for the Colorado market. I want to hit the ground running and want to avoid some of the crap I gone through before.

Thanks for your input.

Everything made sense until you said you were going to have Senior Life and Lincoln Heritage as main carriers.

It appears you have a case of battered agent syndrome. You keep getting attracted to the wrong kind.

What exactly do you find appealing about companies like these?

If you have contracts with Todd, you already know the other companies offer better rates for your customers at nearly every age. They also pay you a better commission. And you aren't required to buy overpriced leads.

I'm not ragging on you. I really don't understand what you are seeing that looks attractive.

Since you are in Colorado . .. .why not look into Colorado Bankers Life? (CBL)
They have some pretty decent rates for F E.

Thanks Newby- you are correct battered and torn but I am reading furiously today on the forum and accumulating as much info as possible. I had to throw something out there so you guys would jump on it.

I haven't done anything yet because I am 2 weeks away from being licensed again. Thank God this state doesn't require fingerprints. No contracts as yet even with Todd. Based on previous experience some carriers work better than others in specific states and I need to have 5-6 to work with based on health, underwriting and premium breaks.

Will look at Frank's training for Med Supp.

Mash.. i hope you are kidding. look up markingriffin . He is on the forum, use the search function, of just read though the forum. he will pop up...

Hey, I have 7 years of experience working Medicare all on the western slope. I believe my knowledge of the area you will find very valuable. Please feel free to contact me 970-261-2087. - reccomend you put Humana in your bag which I can help you with and give you a run down on the doc situation which is not always so cut and dry on the western slope thanks to RMHP. Hooking up woth Todd on the FE side is definately a plus. I may be willing to look at you doing something with my book of business or send you referrals when I can not get to them being I live in Moab now.

Mash, get ahold of Todd king immediately. He is on the forum. Search for him. He will get you all straightened out. He is a straight shooter

This is a dumb question but here goes: Is all you need to sell Final Expense Insurance a Life license?
I worked S. Carolina for 5 years before moving; unless the State law has changed I wrote FE with my life license - Med Supp needed health. Folks in SC didn't mind cold calling so I knocked on a lot of doors and walked out with referrals. The main problem is lack of bank accounts.

All of my business insurance needs were life and group health. Group health carriers were fairly limited and based on networks and doc availability. I dropped my securities license because there were specialists that covered that market and they referred their life and other needs to me.

CSM, yes, you'll need 3 or 4 of them for sure, but LH or Senior Life SHOULD not be in the mix! Not if you're looking for price competive companies anyway.
