Going Door to Door

Since things are finally starting to warm up and I decided not to waste another dime on marketing , I going back to old school door to door. I tried it a couple of years ago with good results till I threw my back out getting in and out of the car all day.

I got a list of seniors in rural areas and printed up med supp and FE rates and hit the country roads and small towns. Its not as bad a you would think it would be. Most people are freindly and I was able to talk to people not accessable by phone and do not respond to direct mail. Most sales were one time closes and the referrals were good too.

I believe door to door is a lost art for insurance sales and a good alternative in these hard times.

How do you doit? Meaning..what do you say when you go and knock on the door?
I had a guy tell me to leave something and not even knock. Well i did it and did not think it would work. I was right.
I would do knocking... I am not an old school agent. I was never taught those methods.
Thanks,
Dave

When I use to go to door to door, we use to offer a hot pad or a cigarette lighter for just 5 mins of the house wife's time.

It worked well, but it's old school now. Back then most wifes didn't work and were at home during the day.

I better stop before I start having back flashes.

I'm no expert I just basicly went out and winged it. I would get a list of seniors in a rual area and printed up Med Supp and FE prices on a flyer. I would just go to their door and introduce myself and hand them a flyer. The key is to get them engaged in a conversation and do it consistantly. I had good days and bad days. I averaged about $ 1,300 a week putting in about 4-5 hours a days.

I know a guy who's been door knocking for 15 yrs now making over $ 75,000 a year. He boast that he has never picked up the phone to call anyone.

I would like to talk to some of these Combined agents and pick their brains on the methods they use.

I've done it, but one must use extreme caution about what is said, implied, and how much "persuasion" is used. Paying attention to signs of cognitive impairments is very important. I was threatened with police, AG, and DOI intervention for talking to one daughters mom. She seemed fine to me and when she mentioned her daughter took care of "this stuff" I got her contact information and left. Before I made it to the office that evening there was a very hostile message waiting on me... BAD EXPERIENCE.

Proceed with caution... even more so in today's environment.

I cut my teeth in Combined Insurance.

Some folks I met with Monumental say that a lot of their agent's, that are on their current lead program, are going to see the responder without calling first to set an appointment. These agents view the completed responder card as an invitation to bring the details & information to the person completing it. It makes since, but I was just taught to call for appointments and I would really like input from an agent doing this. Do you folks know any Monumental agents? Are they going straight to the responder without setting the appointment first? How well is it working well for them? Do they have any words of wisdom? Thanks in advance.

I have seen EVERY combination of marketing techniques work. It all depends on the target, your abilities and preferences, and the legal constraints. I believe that the wise agent employs a blend of each.

I've never done it, but imagine the results will be the same as any marketing. You might wear out some shoes in the process.
