What home and auto carrier would you recommend as a first company for a new independent agent to contract with in Dallas or Houston areas?

Not sure if you have a choice. Any company that will appoint you take it and go from there as your book grows you can pick. More likely you will not get preferred companies knocking on your door. So you might look at American modern, progressive , GMAC, Foremost etc. Good Luck
