GR 2011 Commission Going Live Today

In my state, we get paid on a PMPM basis from most IFP plans, with two exceptions. It probably works out to about to 10% of premiums as FYC, about 3-5% second year and beyond. No advances except for Assurant, who is for the most part a non-player. Even at those levels, it's currently very feasible to make a career selling health insurance here if you have the time (ie money) to make it over the hump.

If anyone has any written communication regarding this, please share. I don't doubt what is posted, it sounds about in line with what is rumored off of most of the major carriers.

Just to throw some gas on the rumor mill......

I had 2 of my reps from a local carrier here in SC stop by and tell me they are set on 10/10 for IFP, which kinda surprised me.

They are not a national carrier, but still one of the top 3 in our state in the IFP market.

Also depends where you get your business. I write small biz owners with a per copy of $4,200. I got off "Becky, 24" with her $80/mo premium years ago.

90% of all individual health business, is probably internet leads.

I don't know many agents using telemarketing to generate significant business, not to say it can't be done at all....just that web leads are easy from most agents pov.

So, in order to get the same AV your probably looking at $9 shared leads, if you close 1:20 ---that's $180 COA....LOL.

Then your looking at $4200 AV x 10% commission= $420 fyc -$180=$240 first year profit.

Sell 5 a week, your @ $60k yr?

Have said this before, but Carefirst in MD's comp is around $20 per policy - $240 annually. If you take a 3K average premium that's around 8%.

Most local brokers I know who have been in the health market since I was in high school make a very good living - cross-selling obviously and cannot STAND carriers like GR.

What is the lead source, def not internet leads right?

And we're not talking about cross selling accident and critical illness plans either I assume? But Life and Disability?

Most of the agents I know in MD have small offices; secretary and like 2 staff. They work their communities and work mostly off referrals with some local ads.

And yes, they sell everything under the sun - most thinking it's beyond absurd for an agent to hang their hat on one product.

These are the kind of agents who sell the mom and dad, then their kids, etc...They are their "agents for life" and basically handle all of their insurance needs.

It's amazing to go to some of their offices and see that they operate by appointment - meaning their clients come and sit down in their offices.

They think internet leads are a complete joke.

Here's one of my local agent friends with this mentality - Ed Kafes: http://insureabetterlife.com/maryland_insurance_carrier.cfm
