Great Article on Dental Insurance

Pretty much hit the nail on the head. Also a glimpse of what is to come with health insurance.

it was the highest cap on the market at the time....truthfully they all sucked....

It's almost guaranteed that the math won't work out between dental insurance and a discount plan.

I pay $120/yr for our discount plan and it's great. I could pay $600 a year for dental insurance and get two free cleanings per year. But we only pay around $50 for those cleanings with our discount plan.

When you hit major work, both plans act like discount plans. On top of that, most of my clients in the past who were adamant about getting dental insurance needed to get major work done...hence the pre-ex period.

Grab a good discount plan. Our has saved my family thousands and you should be pitching dental discount plans to all of your clients.

Yep, I recommend a discount plan for anyone who asks as long as their dentist participates in one. Otherwise you are just trading dollars with dental insurance. And many times you will spend more by having true dental insurance than you would without any dental insurance.

The only "good" dental insurance is if you belong to a large group, union, fed, state, or local gov employee...

oh, and I hear Medicaid in some states can be very comprehensive....

You always have to check with their dentist before selling a discount plan and all but ignore that fact that they might show up in a network search. Some disreputable companies show dentists who are in network yet don't participate.

I call the office and ask which discount plans they accept. If they don't have dentist I'll do a radius search and make sure the ones listed actually accept it.

You also want to warn your clients about some "dental credit" plans they try to pawn off. It's typically 29% compounded hourly.
