Docs have a lot of liability. I just had a kidney stone attack a few weeks back - hit the ER and yes, first thing was a CT scan.
But let's say the based on my symptoms the ER concluded that a CT scan was unnecessary, gave me meds and sent me home saying it would pass.
But ooopss....turns out later it's something else and maybe I land back in the ER with a high fever....and lawsuit to follow. This is the world docs live in.
BTW, they knew I had a kidney stone and said one of the major reasons for the CT scan was to determine its size. Mine was 1mm but they told me that larger than 5mm could have required a procedure.
