Happy Treason Day!

I would take a look at what sexism actual is, as with gender vs sex, you're wrong.

Weird. The dictionary says I'm right and you're wrong. I'm going to side with the dictionary. Don't take is personally.

Definition of sexism
1: prejudice or discrimination based on sex

Listen, if he finds a cure for cancer, I'll forgive his sexism.

Pledging to pick a woman is not sexist. There is a difference between picking someone to be in a position where their demographic is under represented (which in this case, a women of color are definitely under represented in our society) and being prejudicial to Men (or a white male.)

I don't know that I'd necessarily call it sexism, but it's definitely a step in a bad direction. The idea that balancing out "representation" holds primacy over "best available person for the job" when we're talking about selecting the people making the most impactful decisions in the world is (reader's choice of expletive) insane.

If Kamala Harris has a background that would make her a decent VP (not that she is or isn't) then it isn't inherited sexist or racist.

But if she's not the best available person for the job outside of the aim of balancing "representation", it's (reader's choice of expletive) insane.

White men (and I'm white and male, obvs) can be some of the most obtuse people in the world in regards their own privilege.

Especially white progressives. The worst.

When the vast majority of our political makeup is white and male, and then you get bent out of shape because someone says "I'm picking a woman to have a seat at the table, where she usually wouldn't."

It makes you look really crappy.

It would only look crappy to someone who has elevated the value of balanced "representation" above merit or considers race/sex/gender/whatever to be a part of merit. Both sound really crappy to me.

When choosing a doctor for a loved one's dangerous procedure, would you want the best one available or one that makes your loved one feel "represented"?

Whose method of determining merit do you think is more likely to bring about those cures for cancer you're talking about, yours or mine?

The homeless situation is a disaster in nearby San Francisco. I was at a party on the 4th, and I was talking to someone whose date works at the Dept of Homelessness and Supportive Housing. Last year they blew through $850mm and have done basically nothing, and have now decided to throw more money at it, upping it to $1b. Apparently they are looking for a new director. The position pays $1mm/yr.

But not just a new director, but a new director that is black.

And a woman.

And LGBTQ+.

How many people in this country are qualified for that position, and fit all those racist, and sexist criteria? Seriously. 3 people in the whole country? 2? 0?

I am against all forms of racist and sexism, even in this case, when it is in the spirit of helping one person, it is poised to harm millions. This is one more example of a racist government agenda putting millions of people at risk to as to benefit (maybe) one person, and to virtue signal.

You deleted part of the definition and the secondary definition

Definition of sexism
1: prejudice or discrimination based on sex
especially : discrimination against women
2: behavior, conditions, or attitudes that foster stereotypes of social roles based on sex

6 types of sexism, examples, and their impact

Sexism is about holding a group of people down based on sex stereotypes, not because they have a penis or vagina specifically.

"Men can't do women's hair."

Sexism is also a history of sexist behavior where one gender is limited while another is elevated.

Secondly, sexism is combated by leveling the playing field. If a sector is prominently dominated by a certain gender and has a history of excluding a gender, it's combated by recruiting a qualified member of another gender.

In this case, does Kamala Harris have a background that would make her a suitable VP? Regardless of if you think she's good or not, arguing she isn't qualified is a lie.

The idea that balancing out "representation" holds primacy over "best available person for the job" when we're talking about selecting the people making the most impactful decisions in the world is (readers choice of expletive) insane.

You'd be right IF Kamala Harris (in this situation) was completely unqualified OR any of the women that Biden vetted were. Any argument (regardless of if she IS a good VP or not) that she isn't qualified is a fallacy.

Secondly, outside of the President of the Senate and next in the line of succession, the VP has no responsibility that the President doesn't give them. In other words, the "decision" power only comes from the Presidents support.

It would only look crappy to someone who has elevated the value of balanced "representation" above merit or considers race/sex/gender/whatever to be a part of merit.

Communities do this already in politics. We elect people based on the people that we think best represent our opinions. It doesn't mean they're the best for the job.

See Donald Trump.

Hillary Clinton was better qualified, period. Anyone that tries to argue that is a liar. However, she's not a great campaigner, doesn't relate to people well, and generally unlikeable.

When choosing a doctor for a loved one's dangerous procedure, would you want the best one available or one that makes your loved one feel "represented"

So, there's a straw man argument here. Representative Democracy is not the same as "skill-based" occupations and to equate them is a bad faith argument.

Being an elected politician does not require a base level of skill in anything that they would use to perform the occupation.

For example, I can be a Garbage man and win a popular vote and get elected.

Edited:

You're using progressive as a bad word or insult.

Progressivism is a political philosophy in support of social reform. ... In the 21st century, a movement that identifies as progressive is "a social or political movement that aims to represent the interests of ordinary people through political change and the support of government actions"

Maybe you should rethink what you're really about.

He was definitely doing number 2 by treating the female gender differently, in giving them preference in hiring.

Wow, it's amazing how much we agree on.

Oh? What sexual stereotype did Joe Biden hold men down with?

Oh, you make a really good point. He hurt both sexes.

Men by specifically opting for a woman instead of a man that may be qualified, and by signaling that they should be treated differently. Maybe a man was best for a job. Maybe a woman was. We may never know. He decided to only choose the best person from 50% of the population, so really, he was hurting everyone.

Women by signaling that they should be treated differently and singled out.

You bring up a really good point. His sexism hurts everyone. Good on you Travis. Man, I had no idea you and I agreed so much.

Just as suspected, Travis argues that we choose people based on traits to combat against treating people based on those same traits.

When the numbers are all equal then there will be no more isms!!

Ah the mind a leftist (and he is a leftist).

Using sexism and racism to solve sexism and racism, lol.
