News Story: Blue Cross and Blue Shield to Offer ID Protection Services - ABC News

Excerpt from E-mail to Agents:

News Alert – July 14, 2015

All Groups; Individual/Consumer Markets
BCBSIL Will Offer Identity Protection Services to Eligible Members Beginning January 1, 2016.

This information will be shared with employers via special bulletin later today.

The safety and protection of our members’ health and personal information is a top priority. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) continues to evaluate additional security measures to enhance our robust information security program. In conjunction with the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, BCBSIL will offer identity protection services to eligible BCBSIL members beginning Jan. 1, 2016.

This protection offer can provide our members peace of mind about the security of their personal and financial information. Eligible BCBSIL members can opt in to receive these services provided by a leading identity protection company and will include:
1.Credit monitoring – Monitors for activity that may affect a member’s credit.
2.Fraud detection – Attempts to detect potentially fraudulent use of a member’s identity or credit.
3.Fraud resolution support – Assists members in addressing issues that arise in relation to credit monitoring and fraud detection.

We understand your customers may have questions about the new service. BCBSIL is working through all of the details of this offering. We will provide more information to eligible members on how to take advantage of this new service in the coming months.

----snip---- Talking points for agents to use are not pasted-----snip------

Initial Thoughts? Here's mine..

1). Nowhere does it say that this ID Theft Protection will be FREE.
2). Not sure it's a good idea to have your entire life so closely associated with your health insurance company. (ID Theft company probably shares all info.)
3). Good move on Blue Cross's part if it can somehow make customers think that this BCBS-Branded ID Theft Protection is a fringe benefit of being insured by BCBS...even if the customers have to pay for it.

ps: Others may follow BCBS, which is why I made this thread's title generic.

Isn't that called HIPPA?

Sounds like a Sit and Spin to me...or, is that new service comp'd?

LMAO
