Health Care Group of Arizona
HEALTHCARE GROUP ALERT
The Arizona State Legislature passed legislation to repeal Healthcare Group of Arizona (HCGA) effective January 1, 2014. This legislation was necessary, because HCGA would not be able to compete with other health coverage options that will be available in 2014 under health care reform. With the passage of Laws 2013, First Special Session, Chapter 10, HCGA will stop providing coverage to all enrolled members effective midnight on December 31, 2013. At that time, health insurance coverage on the new web-based insurance exchanges will be available. The legislation also prohibits HCGA from enrolling new businesses and employees after August 1, 2013.
On October 1, 2013, the new web-based insurance exchanges will begin accepting applications for health insurance coverage. In Arizona, this marketplace will be operated by the federal government and is known as the federally-facilitated marketplace, or FFM. Coverage on the FFM begins January 1, 2014 and will be available to individuals and to small businesses. Additional information on the operation of the FFM can be found at www.healthcare.gov.
