I have a 55 yr old lady who is 5'3" 237, insulin dependent diabetic, with no other related health issues. The bigger issue is that after raising kids and working she has essentially been diagnosed as having a mental incapacity. No disease, she is just slow and has trouble understanding things. This came on late in life. Is their anyone who would take her immediate, or am I looking at graded. I have checked Monu, RNA, SNL, but am curious if maybe Americo or someone else would take her. Any thoughts?

Americo might work as long as there aren't any complications from the diabetes and depending on the acutual reported medical condition for her mental status. These two may not be unrelated.

The mental issue is the scary part. Is she capable (competent) of making decisions?

"slow and trouble understanding things" could just a well be a description of dementia. If she is your source for medical info, how confident are you in her accuracy considering her current condition?

Her sister is the one that told me. SHe still takes care of herself for the most part, but her siblings handle everything else. I am pretty sure she will be graded/ modified, but wanted to check.

Foresters just asks if applicant has, Alzheimers or dementia, & if taking medication for that, if she has no dementia & she clears RX background, she should get level.

I don't think she could pass a phone interview.

The second question would be the one that i'd be more concerned with: "Do you require a wheelchair due to chronic illness or disease or assistance (from anyone) with activities of daily living such as taking medications, bathing, dressing, eating, or toileting.

I've had someone get declined just because she needed help getting out of the tub if she took a bath. Hell, i'm 23 and I can barely get out of the by tub myself lol.

I've had some really tricky people get through a health interview. I practice the health questions and remind them that we had all "NO'S" right? You said NO to each and every one, so we'll be prepared to zip through and fire our NO's at em'. Remember we don't volunteer extra information after saying your NO's.

One time I had to wait on a schizophrenic to get his Haladol shot before we did the health interview. He was super calm on the phone though, so it was well worth the wait.

:GEEK: nope, nope I am not going there. Nope.

I just did a Hmong deal that we had to use an interpreter. It was a Sagicor non med. So it was all the part B questions. Plus the electronic signature "repeat after me" stuff. Man, that was painful.
