Help with "Your Insurance Office"

For the past two months I have been using YIO as my contact managment program. Yesterday, I printed one of my clients (I have entered around 60 clients). When I returned to the main page, the program did not open. This message popped up:

Cannot find the data base file, 'C\YIO-5\YIO-5.MDE. Make sure you have the correct path and file name.

I have tried several other methods but I keep receiving the same error message. Can anyone offer any suggestions on what occured and if I can expect to retrieve any of my data? I don't believe contacting the company I purchase it from is an option anymore.

Thanks, Jim

I don't know about YIO but it occasionally happens with ACT.

With ACT you click on start, computer, c-drive, programs, ACT, databases and then select your database. That cures it.

YIO is a good product but I've heard from a number of people that there is no response either to email or phone calls. This has been going on for several months.

Given the lack (or likely end) of support, I can no longer recommend this product. I was given a promise that support would continue but this has not happened.

Fortunately for the OP there are "only" 60 clients in the database. I suggest looking elsewhere for a CRM.

It bothers me that Frank's program and really his pride and joy is no longer viable for the long term and I do feel guilty for recommending it after his death.

I did that and it worked! Thanks for the advise. Jim

I would think that any agent who migrates away from YIO could go with ACT if they want a similar desktop installed program.

Any fields that you like in YIO are easily created in ACT. It's pretty cheap and has great support (at a price) if you need it.

Also synchs with any phone contacts and calendar.

I'm surprised that no FMO or programer has bought the rights to YIO from Frank's wife to continue it.

I have used ACT since v2 but when they changed the database and were bought out, it became slow and it also crashed on me. I LOVED ACT. I also like YIO and used it, but it also crashed. Can't be havin' that!
I have been using Salesforce for 3 years with NO issues AT ALL. I have highly customized it, which is pretty simple, esp. if you are familiar with ACT; it is very similar. I just don't like being in the "cloud" but don't want to give up the functionality until I find something that will run local, preferably on Linux (synced across multiple computers w/ dropbox - I know, the cloud, but that is only a BACKUP, there are also local copies on every computer with dropbox, as most folks already know. No SS numbers or anything HIPAA non-compliant.)

A person who I can't mention who was banned had recommended X2 which is a local CRM for linux, but IT crashed on me. And he also used sugarcrm for a long time but one of his last posts reflected that fact that he was getting tired of all the trouble to keep it updated. I have played around with sugarcrm and like it, it is very similar to Salesforce and is local, but uses a backend database (mySQL, postGRES, whatever), which I don't know enough about to get that to sync across computers. A single point of failure is really not acceptable, which is why I'd like to move away from Salesforce (cloud + single point of failure) although I do pull down backups but can't make heads or tails out of them, and did try a restore on a test system and that was just a mess - it didn't work - they said I would need support help. No thanks.

Isn't there just a simple CRM database that uses XML for storage (easy to replicate w/ dropbox)??? Besides OSMO (which I don't know if it's still supported but is a great little CRM for linux).

I have used Outlook for YEARS and even their BCM (business contact manager), but it's overkill, bloated, and runs slow, and again, one LARGE proprietary database point of contact. If that crashes, who you gonna call? Everyone knows Microsoft don't own no damn phones.

I'm old school in every other aspect of the business, so been seriously thinking about going back to Excel for financial record keeping (well, gnumeric on linux, or google docs ss but that's cloud) and cards and paper calendar for prospecting (submitted and inforce client data can be accessed on carrier's systems with any browser from anywhere).

I'm tired of typing.

ACT had a few bad years around 2006-2008. But they have been better than ever from 2010 on. Works great, easy to customize, synchs with multiple computers and phones. You can even use it in the cloud now but I haven't used that feature yet.

If it screws up I pony up $200 for a years service contract and call a number. ACT support fixes it right over the Internet. It's nice.

Thanks for the response Newby! You have my curiosity up again about ACT. I know it uses MS SQLserver for the database, and I don't know and don't want to take the time, to learn how to back it up. Do you back yours up?

At any rate, the solution may be the cloud for backup, and local for usage.

But I have really gotten spoiled by being able to hit Salesforce from any computer and any OS (just a browser).

Any further comments appreciated, and I'll get on their site later and look around.

Sure would be nice to be off the cloud BUT replicated across multiple computers. Technology continues to advance, so....who knows?
