Hit Fire Hydrant W/ No Damage And Left Scene

You should be fine. Just explain to your insurance company that you hit a fire hydrant and there was no damage to the hydrant but your car was damaged. You didn't think the damage was big but after getting estimates you want to repair it since the damage is more than you expected. As long as you have collision coverage, you will be fine.

No you cannot get in trouble if there was no damage to the fire hydrant. When you call in the claim, that is a question that they will ask regarding any damage to the property. I had a similar situation when I hit a lawn decoration in a friends yard. There was no damage to their item just my vehicle. I answered honestly and truthfully to my insurance carrier and there were no problems.

And as earlier messages stated earlier, it is not considered a hit and run so you can rest easy that cops will not be showing up looking for you. Thanks!
