How Can I Become a Successful Insurance Agent?

I'm just imagining the tremendous waste of money and time this guy just went through in order to sell life insurance.

Oh rbk.... don't be such a party pooper. The school of hard knocks will give him a great education.

If you decide to go independent instead of captive you may want to check out the IHIAA to learn the ropes of health insurance and the ILIAA to learn the ropes of selling life insurance.

Or just go captive and get the kind of personal attention and feedback that is required for training to truly be good. Videos are no substitute for a live person at your side.

Everything has its' pros and cons as far going captive or going independent. You can join some agencies without having to go captive and still get one on one attention and training. I know of a couple of final expense agencies like that in my area.

I'll add my vote to the "get a captive gig and learn the business" suggestion. The products you'll be selling are far too important to the well-being of your clients to make a bunch of rookie mistakes from being under-trained.

Just one caveat: The manager will be key to your education and growth. Before committing to a company, do some due diligence and verify that the manager is a good one for training and development.

Good luck!
