At least they have seemed to slow down.

To me, they are trying to get around email opt-outs.
Since most people opt-in to email alerts for PMs.
And that is a slimy thing to do on a professional forum.

But think about it...

Anyone who logs in regularly to see the PM, is active on the forum and does not need an update message.

Those who need an updated message, are those who dont log in. So how does a PM help them??? Its all about the email and getting around the opt-out.

Instead of your spam notifications, wouldn't it be as easy to start a new thread instead.

You are missing the point.

People want email notifications for PMs.

People dont want their PM inbox flooded with forum spam.
(which also leads to their email inbox receiving useless notifications)

Yes, its spam. Because it is an unsolicited message advertising website content. That is part of the literal definition of spam.
