How Far Are You Willing to Drive for Client?

I had a good zinger for my last prospect who almost demanded that I drive out to see them because "they were meeting with a few agents." lol.

I said "if I come out I'll sell you aluminum siding or a patio enclosure but not health insurance."

meeting with a few agents

I used to work with a guy that would get psyched over situations like that. When someone would hang up on him, show him the door or tell him they were taking several quotes he got an adrenaline rush. He said it made him all the more determined to beat his competition and get the sale.

Nothing wrong with being competitive, but that is insanity.

Maybe sociopathic is a better description.

How far are you willing to drive to meet with a client/prospect, to try and sell them some insurance?

Distance and/or time ?

I know we all have our limits.

If you are writing life insurance exclusively, it's a lot different than writing health or life as an add on to a health policy.

There can be massive quatities of cash on the horizon with individual life in a f2f appointment, you have to size up the situation. My last F2F life case was a $9k + other policies - I drove 14 miles round trip. I would have driven as far as necessary for this guy.

Few and far between are the health clients that I've met f2f. The farthest I've driven for a health appt. was 25 miles, but it was on my way to a current health client to do a life app. Both cases were placed. I basically devoted the day to them.

With me, a lot of it has to do with how much I have pre-qualified the client. I don't want to drive two hours for a loosey-goosey prospecting meeting. However, if I have to drive that distance just to write someone up, it is almost like not working sometimes :)

Good topic

As for individual health sales most of mine are over the phone. Group health with more than 5 employees I will drive up to an hour or longer since small group sales are slow right now. If you write a small group that grows and gets over 10 lives then you better meet them because other agents will be knocking on the door.

Once in five years I drove to see a client, because he wouldn't do anything over the phone, turned out he was 5 hours away (each way) on a farm in PA. The drive out was beautiful.

Wrote three sales. Him and his family, and one for each of the farm hands working for him, and he bought me lunch.

The ride home wasn't too bad either.

I also got to milk a cow ; )~

I'll drive up to an hour away to write business....life or health. I work out of my house and would rather not have someone come here.

95% of my sales are me going to their house or business.

Now PDP plans...a different story.

Another question is...how far will you go to service a client? I'll go an hour away for that too.
