You have to really check out the IMO or FMO some won't give you a release and you will have to wait six months without writing any business for that company to get one. Also make sure it is writing that you own your book of business. Or each time you will start from scratch. Also what made you go captive when you have your own client base, and your manager is now trying to learn from you?

When I started 3 weeks ago, I didn't even know the difference between captive and independent. I don't think he is trying to learn from me because I really can't teach him anything about the business. Maybe he is just interested in my sales techniques in general.

But again, starting off in a new industry, I didn't and still don't know all the questions to ask.
