I really should be working

Nothing wrong with garbage slinging and cement work.

My sons a cement man. He started learning the trade at about 13. Fast forward to 34 yrs old, he makes wayyyy more than probably many agents on this board and he's built like a brick shithouse. Makes more than I do bar none and close to what my hub makes. I will say though, he now has employees doing much of the hardest parts. It will tear up a body that's for sure.

I have many life clients who are blue collar workers and have mad respect for those guys.

Enjoy the week you get with your gdaughter. To me, theres nothing better than the love a gparent has for the gkids and vice versa. :)
I worked on a farm every summer for over 10 years growing up. I absolutely hated every minute of it.

My son is only 9 but has his grandpas' (both) proclivity for fixing things/physical labor. I think he'll make way more in doing a trade than he would in some corporate gig. I'm not pushing it, but giving him everything he needs to explore that route.

There is a magnificent house in East Tennessee that has a fence around the property that probably cost more than most people's houses. It is referred to by the locals as "The house garbage built".

Owner started out with a ratty pickup truck hauling people's garbage for the dump. He went to the rural areas no one else would service...After a while he got another old pick and hired a guy to operate a route. The, he bought a couple of larger trucks. Following that he bought a garbage truck and then a fleet of trucks. With the trucks came more employees. A few years ago he sold out for millions. I BFI was the buyer. I was told he did not even graduate from HS. And, yet he didn't make more than the average teacher, he made more than many school's entire staff.

Yeah, those cement guys are a rugged bunch. . I had a couple slabs done last year. And they are not cheap. Prior to insurance I started as a framer moved into bidding & estimating customs.

My comfort zone is more blue collar. And trash talking Vets.

Thank you. They have lived in the DC area since he was discharged so about 6 years. I try to come out 2-3 time a year. Can't have her forget about PopPop. My kids claim I have gone don't compared to when they were younger. 😄

The trades are great for teaching critical thinking. Seeing a pile of lumber and envisioning a home.
