I Think I Got Screwed by My Captive Agency-Advice Please!

This is what I thought, thanks. I was never issued an Amerilife number, so technically I can do what I want. And I am definitely female.

Don't be so quick. Whether or not you were issued a number is not the defining point. The question is, did you sign the contract, and did the appropriate person at Amerilife sign the contract. If the answer to both is yes, then there is a contract that you can be held to. A writing number is just internal paperwork that has no impact on the contract.

Thanks for clarifying this, I will try to get a copy of my contract.

If possible, you need to have an attorney look at your contract and get your sequence of events so he/she can determine what options you have to settle your problem.

Just my 2-cents. I am not an attorney but know when to seek professional legal counsel and this would be one of those times if I was in your shoes.

I have to second this recommendation and also in the future make sure to keep copies of contracts.

Of course you got screwed by your captive company that is a given. And when you leave a captive company you get screwed even harder. MY advice if captive stock up on pain killers so that when you are screwed you are numb.

I am glad I got out while I did, and didn't delve any deeper into commitment and writing business that I would have lost..... at least I am "released" without hassle.

I wish I wasn't allergic to codeine, I would be on it right now. I feel like I got raped by Amerilife.

If you never got issued an agent number, which agent signed the apps and put which agent number on there? I am guessing it was your manager who signed it and got paid commissions.

I think your making more out of this than it has to be...I have submitted many pieces of business with pending down for my agent number...Many carriers in my state do not appoint until you submit a piece of business...You can either put your Social (which is nuts) or I put down pending.

That seems like a valid point. I am sure they would not process an app w/o a signature and agent number. The app couldn't be part of a valid contract (policy).
