I Think I Got Screwed by My Captive Agency-Advice Please!

I think your making more out of this than it has to be...I have submitted many pieces of business with pending down for my agent number...Many carriers in my state do not appoint until you submit a piece of business...You can either put your Social (which is nuts) or I put down pending.
I have never been able to submit an app with "pending" on there- always need an agent number. Maybe it's different in Maine, who knows.

If you never got issued an agent number, which agent signed the apps and put which agent number on there? I am guessing it was your manager who signed it and got paid commissions.

I signed the apps, but never put down an agent number.

My ex boss told me I am crazy if I think I can make it as a general agent, that's it's too much work. I'm just going to give it my best shot, I'm not scared of hard work and a learning curve.

I've done it several times. First piece of business to a carrier, I rarely have an agent number. Often my appointment gets submitted with the business.

Same here...My state does not require pre-appointment to sell products so many carriers will not act on appointment paperwork nor accept the paperwork without a submitted application. My first MGA told me to use my Social Security number not telling me I could use pending....I'm still pissed about that due to those pages becoming part of the contract so if my clients have a little insurance knowledge they now have my social security number.

I just left it blank and let the MGA take care of it. Also, I can't recall any policy where the agent's report got included as part of the application.

Well, I think you should go for it as an independent GA if that's what you want. He's telling you that you are crazy because he does not want the competition.

I concur with the going independent. However all this seek out an attorney talk is not worth your time. These leads your speaking of don't sound like a ton of clients. While this might not be the way you want to hear it. If your going to be independent you have to know when a fight is worth it financially and when it will make you more money to just move on.

If you've only been screwed over for a couple hundred....even just a few thousand in Insurance by some Agency your doing well. I can count dozens of agents who have worked with prominent GA's on this forum even that are owed ALOT more money than you are out right now. "The principle of the matter" doesn't feed my kids is how I look at these situations. Make the most you can, live & learn and move on is the best way to handle this situation.

I concur, co ins guy. I am guessing the three policies {or whatever} that TXlady sold, and the few hundred or few thousand bucks, could be made up quite quickly on her own. She should run away and don't ever look back!!
