Unhealthy, healthy really doesn't matter as its "what can you afford".. when they cant afford a PPO and your only option is an HMO would you rather have them go without anything??? You dont want to drive 20 miles for that specialist , no problem...pay $400 a month instead of $90 month with your subsidy ...as long as you tell them this and they accept it, I write them up all day long ....Thats just the way it is now.

And I'm sure if u sold homes or cars, u wouldn't have a problems selling asbestos laced homes or rear engine cars to someone. Some of us choose not to put the the client in that predicament.
 
I don't sell any of those things so its irrelevant,....No predicament to be put in, as they are already in it and you cant change it...Either you can afford a PPO or Not, pretty simple......

As I have said over and over however some on here disagree.... that's fine, I am correct in my statement and soon those on the other side of the asile will either agree or sink.....

HMO's are the future for the subsidized client....When the POTUS said the key to reforming health care was to provide "local" care that was code word for HMO HMO HMO HMO HMO.....

Do I like HMO's? Hell NO.... will I walk a sale because of price? NOPE... within 3 years ALL subsidized plans will be HMO..... Just watch
 
I don't agree that all subsidized policies will only have HMO options in 3 years.

If for no other reason than people in rural areas don't have access to HMO's, PPO's will be all that's available.

I'm not walking away from business because the client only wants the HMO due to price. As long as they understand the limitations and the 2 hospitals within 20 miles, I'm sleeping fine. The biggest hurdle is making clear that if they are doing it to have "something" then they better understand how it works. If they see their regular doc and pay cash and are referred to a specialist, they have to start all over again with the PCP in the network. And a specialist in the network.

At that point, they say usually say forget it and go with the PPO ;)
 
Pick your business model and run with it!

Dollar-store sales! It's the "volume" business model, churn and burn, sell HMO's, target budget-strapped clients... It serves both needs - it makes money for the agent, and helps that clientele. But you need a churn-and-burn high volume business model, lower persistency, and customer service problems with lower-quality products like HMOs.

Quality product sales! It's the quality model, more educated or financially stable clientele, PPO insurance, avoidance of HMO's and Medicaid. It serves both needs - it makes money for the agent and serves the needs of that clientele. The agent reaps quality referrals and great persistency.

Both of them make money for the agent. You just pick your model and run with it.

As for the subsidized market being looked at like "Medicaid all over again", I have been predicting this since the ACA was passed and many of you have, too. But that doesn't mean all of America will be on HMOs. It just means the divide will be huge between "I'm on those yucky HMO plans" and "I have private insurance". Pick your market and business model. The divide is widening.

Cmon, Bill, you and I both know that isn't the case, HMO's are ACA compliant and won't work for some and will work for some.

I would be highly offended if the remark about cars and homes referred to me, by the way...

Bad analogy..........sorry if I offended my friends on the board.

But, I will say, the situation came up today. Long term client and good friend, buying off exchange in Sarasota county. Choice of county specific HMO and for $50/mo more, the MC PPO HSA. As you know, Children's hospital not in network in the HMO, but is in the MC network. His daughter spent a week in childrens hospital last year, and told him I can't be part of the HMO sale. He got the idea and is spending the extra $50 for the MC.

It's all situational, no blanket statements or advice, as we all know.

On exchange, the only choice is the HMO
