Internet Leads Vs Hiring a Telemarketer

Ok, Im completely new here and wasnt quite sure where to post my question. I didnt want to, nor do I even know if I could, start a new discusion since Ive never posted here before. Anyway, this seems like a topic that fits close enough with my question.

Im a new licensed agent. Ive had my life license for about two weeks. I want to explain this scenario and get some thoughts from some experienced agents. I wont say the name of the agency im with yet cause I dont want anyones negative thoughts about this particular agency clouding what they might say about the scenario. If that makes sense. I will tell the name of the agency after I get some feedback.

Anyway, I am and independent agent with contracts with a few different carriers. The agency I am with has their own lead generation system and the leads are exclusive to our agency. So, since I am brand new, I wanted to keep costs down to start with so I purchased some of the older leads. I started calling, eager to get my first deal done and get the ball rolling. Did not go well. Im hearing basically the same thing from my "prospects". They have already been contacted by an agent and they are not intersted. So, I found out that the leads I purchased have been through about 3 or 4 other agents before sold to me. Is this normal practice to recycle leads like this? I have years of experience doing in home sales and in home presentations. But I suck on the phone. If I can get in front of the people, I can close, but I cant close unless I can set Apts by phone and it seems that everyone I call has already talked to someone and on some cases already had one of our agents in their home discussing their options. Im floored by this. I new the leads were older thats why they were cheap, but I didnt think they would have been leads that were already talked to or sat down. Is this normal practice for agencies?

I dont mind investing in myself so I looked into getting the "hot" leads which have not been sold to anyone so I would be the first. They are $24, which is reasonable I think, but if you buy them you cant pick what types of leads you want. So you might get final expense leads or you might get mortgage protection leads. I would think that for $24 a lead I would be able to choose which ones I want. (I would rather have mortgage protection leads) Also, there are ZERO "hot" leads in my state and I dont have the money yet to get licensed in other states so Im stuck buying old, recycled leads.

Here are my thoughts about where to go from here.
1. Buy leads from an online source. I found one source that claims to sell exclusive leads, real time, for $25 a lead.
2. Hire someone with a stronger phone skill to book Apts for me. There are other agents that I know that are making money with the same type of leads that I have. And I dont mean to sound arrogant, but Im far more personable and have better presentation skills. The problem is I cant get to the presentation.

Any thoughts on this? Should I do option 1. option 2. or maybe option 3: get a better attitude....

Sorry its such a long post. Hopefully it makes sense. Thanks for any advice.

dude you might want to start your own thread instead of hijacking this one
