Alright I'm currently studying for my life license but this is a question for the P&C experts on here and I'm asking as a consumer. Is it true that if someone hosts lets say a BBQ at their house and one of the guests drinks (not necessarily too much) and then leaves, drives off and hurts someone or damages property the homeowner or host could be held partially liable?

Yes, if you let someone drive who is obviously intoxicated and they get into an accident, you could be liable. If you supplied the alcohol and/or they drank at your home, you should take some responsibility and help them find a ride or let them stay over.
Many homeowners policies include 'host liquor liability,' which helps cover this type of thing, but you still want to be extra careful because if you are grossly negligent homeowners policies won't cover punitive damages.
